Central Wool Development Schemes

Objective:

  • To create a digital platform for e-auction of raw wool for commercial use. Financial assistance to be provided to develop E-Portals for auctioning of wool.
  • To enable rural households to take up sustainable livelihood opportunities integrated with the wider economy and enhancement of rural incomes through socially inclusive and institutionally and environmentally sustainable approaches.
  • To provide a common platform for all the stakeholders involved in the wool sector.
  • To support and help the farmers to get best price for their raw wool by developing proper marketing avenues through forward linkages
  • To encourage the sheep-goat and rabbit husbandry in the state as a lucrative source of income and employment generation.

 

Expected output:

  • Successful implementation of the project will provide a ready market for the wool of the shepherd and due to non availability of proper marketing will greatly reduced the wastage of wool leading to livelihood enhancement of the shepherds.
  • Shepherds families of Uttarakhand will be benefitted by enhanced income through systematic, proper procurement and marketing of natural fibre wool and goat hair and through qualitative and quantitative improvement in production.
  • Through livelihood improvement interventions socio economic status of farmers will be improved and hardship faced by them will be minimized.

Objective:

  • Sheep breeders of the state sell their produce at the price dictated by traders due to their economic compulsions, low contribution of wool in sheep economy & low volume and distant location of markets.
  • Normally, the Sheep breeders do not transport their wool to the market and a substantial quantity of wool is purchased by the local traders and / or outside traders at relatively low price.
  • There is need to form wool producer societies/SHGs to increase the bargaining power of wool growers, so that the wool producers can sell wool in bulk to fetch better prices.
  • The aim of the scheme is to facilitate the wool growers to form wool producers societies/SHGs.

 

Expected output:

  • All activates related to the growth of sheep and wool sector can be channelized through the formed WPS/SHGs for fetching better prices.
  • Better liasioning between the member of WPS/SHGs and Implementing Agency will help in the growth of Sheep Sector.
  • Bulking of wool will assist in managing sale and transport of raw wool.
  • Organization of wool growers for wool marketing.

Objective:

  • The aim of component is to provide facility to the wool growers for sale of raw directly to the concerned dealing directly with the established national and international woolen industry by inviting user industry in the wool growing areas.
  • Financial assistance will be provided to conduct meetings of wool growers and woolen industry/ traders at wool growing areas by inviting the industry / traders.

 

Expected output:

  • In the present scenario Sheep breeders of the state are selling their wool at the price dictated by traders due to their economic compulsions, low contribution of wool in sheep economy & low volume and distant location of markets.
  • Buyer seller meet will provide the bargaining power of wool growers, so that the wool producers can sell wool in bulk to fetch better prices.

Objective:

  • Manual shearing is not only expensive and time consuming but it also reduces the quality of wool in terms of fibre length. While on the other hand machine shearing is cheap, quick and it improves the fiber length.
  • Wool yield per animal also increases approx. by 7-8%. Hence there is need to provide more sheep shearing machine to cover more sheep under machine shearing specially in the hilly states producing fine quality wool Financial assistance will be provided to procure shearing machines to undertake the machine shearing activity.

 

Expected output:

  • Machine wool shearing and training to the Sheep breeders will help in uniform shearing of animals resulting in increased staple length and uniform fleece and ultimately breeders will get good price of animal wool.
  • Quality certification of wool through better analysis techniques.
  • Enhanced quality of wool through proper packaging using bale press.

Objective:

  • To revive the declining interest in sheep farming by organization of training sessions and workshop.
  • Training to resources persons for better return
  • Dissemination of new technology for manufacturing better quality products
  • Manual shearing is not only expensive and time consuming but it also reduces the quality of woolen terms of short staple length.
  • Machine shearing is cheap, quick and it improves the fiber length.
  • Shortage of trained machine shearers to operate the machine resulting low coverage of sheep under machine shearing.
  • To train sufficient sheep shearers to operate the shearing machines.
  • Under this component financial assistance would be provided to provide Training on machine shearing.

 

Expected output:

  • Machine wool shearing and training to the Sheep breeders will help in uniform shearing of animals resulting in increased staple length and uniform fleece and ultimately breeders will get good price of animal wool.
