Sheep and Wool Improvement Scheme (SWIS)

Sponsored by – Central Wool Development Board (CWDB) Ministry of Textiles, Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

This project is being implemented in 08 districts of the state as follows Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Tehri, Pauri, Dehradun, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar. Under which healthcare of sheep, vaccination, treatment, drenching, dipping etc. programs are being run.

Under this project 05 Ram Raising Units (RRU) have also been established in the state namely RRU Kopardhar (Tehri), Bangali (Chamoli), Dunda (Uttarkashi), Pangu (Pithoragarh) and Shamaliti (Bageshwar). The rams which are born in the govt. sheep breeding farms of the state are brought and raised in these RRU’s up to 6-8 months of age and are then distributed to the farmers according to their demands throughout the state.
